Oasis is building the most transparent health data platform in the world.
We independently test, analyze, and synthesize the latest scientific research on drinking water, food, and supplements—so consumers can instantly understand what's actually inside the products they use every day.
We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to own and scale the data architecture behind Oasis. You'll be the person responsible for making sure we can support millions of products accurately and quickly—keeping our catalog in sync with lab providers and the latest health science in real time. You'll own features end-to-end from data model to deploy, evolve our backend as the product grows, and bring strong product sense to shape what we build.
Responsibilities
Data architecture: Own and scale the data architecture behind Oasis so we can support millions of products (waters, filters, foods, supplements, ingredients, lab tests, health guidelines) accurately and quickly. You understand the tradeoffs to different data models and own the end-to-end architecture.
Lab provider integrations: Build and maintain pipelines that ingest, validate, and reconcile lab test results from multiple providers, keeping every product's data continuously in sync.
Real-time science updates: Design the systems that flow the latest health science, guidelines, and research into product scores and insights in real time, so what users see is always current.
Accuracy and performance at scale: Build the validation, monitoring, and observability layers that keep data correct and fast as the catalog grows by orders of magnitude.
Ownership and craft: Take real ownership of your work — thoughtfully propose solutions, weigh the long-term tradeoffs, and ship things that scale and are beautifully designed with great UX. We care as much about how something feels as how it performs.
Product sense: We expect all team members to think critically about product decisions and help shape the best experience for our users.
Collaboration: Communicate clearly in written documents or impromptu syncs
Who you are
- 3-5 years building high quality production apps, with deep experience in backend systems and data modeling
- Have scaled a data-heavy system (large catalog, ingestion pipelines, or sync engine) and can speak to the tradeoffs you made
- Comfortable designing schemas, pipelines, and APIs that ingest from many external sources and stay reconciled
- Owned a feature from problem statement to production, including the data model
- Comfortable discussing tradeoffs of architectural calls
- High agency - thinking critically about the product and finding the right problems to tackle
